About 10 days ago, before I left to AK, Gabe Taylor and I decided to do what no man has ever done before... Ok, not sure if that's true, but we thought it sounded like fun to ride Mammoth Unbound in the am followed by a skinning mission up to Bloody Couloir in the afternoon. Spring is the perfect time for an idea such as this... After a long morning of park shredding, a solid hour of trying to figure out how to mount my new Atomic touring bindings (prototypes) without a proper jig, we made it up top. The sun was just starting to set and the snow looked all time. Only problem was Christian Pondella and 5 friends skied it in the morning leaving us not many options to avoid tracks. So, after some quick thinking we decided to ski the sneaker shoot, except we had a slight problem... Gabe nor I knew where the entrance was, and it's a hanging blind snow field with 200-300 foot exposure on either side of the couloir. So, once again I put on my thinking cap and called Pondella, who's house looks directly at Bloody. He busted out his telescope, I put my phone tucked in my hat, and he guided us in via Verizon wireless's network [finally understand why they say it's the most trusted]. It was awesome! Snow was great, the couloir was steep, and I'm really hoping to do it again before the seasons over.
Here's a pic Christian snapped for us. The couloir is fairly hidden, but follow the tracks and you'll get the idea... |
